Sculptural White Concrete Side Table. Arched. Solid.
Description
ace second. A rounded bowl top
sits on an arched base, so from the side she reads as an arch and from above as a circle.
In a room of straight lines she is the piece the eye goes to.
She works beside a sofa or an armchair, next to a bed in place of a nightstand, or alone
against a wall as an object with a candle on it. At 50 cm across the top is generous for
a side table - a lamp, a drink and a book fit without crowding.
About the size.
50 cm in diameter, 50 cm high. That height sits level with or just above a typical sofa
arm, which is where a side table should be - low enough to reach down to, high enough not
to disappear beside the furniture.
The round top is the practical advantage in a tight corner: no corners to catch a shin on
as you pass.
About the material.
Solid concrete with a smooth matt white finish, cast and finished by hand. Small
variations in tone and surface texture are part of the material rather than faults in it.
She has real weight to her, which is what you want in a pedestal shape - she will not
tip if you lean on the edge. She also wants a level floor: concrete on an uneven surface
will rock.
Honest note on white concrete.
White is the finish that shows everything, and concrete is porous by nature even when
sealed. Wine, coffee, oil and anything acidic will mark if left overnight. The routine is
simple - wipe spills when they happen, use a coaster under anything wet, and re-seal the
surface once a year with concrete sealer from any hardware store.
If you want the same shape with less upkeep, the Aurora also comes in black, which hides
far more.
Indoor vs outdoor.
Indoors, or a fully covered terrace. Not in direct sun year-round - UV will lighten a
white finish unevenly over seasons.
Care.
Damp cloth for daily cleaning. Clean spills when they happen. Re-seal annually. No bleach,
no abrasive scrubs, no rough cloths.
