Coffee Table Dubai: Concrete, Wooden, and Rattan Coffee Tables for Modern Homes

There’s one interior detail that almost no one puts much thought into. People spend weeks choosing a sofa, browsing through rugs, and planning the lighting, only to end up placing whatever coffee table happened to be on sale right in the middle of the room. And that’s it - the whole look just doesn’t come together, even if the rest of the furniture is perfect.

Meanwhile, the coffee table is the only piece of furniture visible from every corner of the room. It’s a surface for a cup of coffee, a place to rest a book, and a spot for a tray of drinks when guests arrive - which means it’s one of the main elements of the living room.

If you’ve faced the same problem, today you’ll learn how to choose a coffee table in Dubai. The Home and Soul team will break down material, shape, size, and many other considerations in this article so you can choose the perfect coffee table that’s both beautiful and functional.

Coffee Table Materials: Concrete, Wood, and Rattan

If you’ve decided to take a thoughtful approach to buying a coffee table, your first task is to choose the right material. There are certainly many options, and this variety can sometimes be overwhelming because you like everything and don’t know exactly what to settle on.

The most popular materials in Dubai right now are concrete, wood, and rattan. These three materials have proven to be the best suited for the city’s hot climate. Let’s go over each one separately:

  • Concrete coffee table. This is a sculptural, modern option that’s practically indestructible. A concrete coffee table is suitable for industrial, Scandinavian, and modern interiors. It’s heavy enough to stay put even on a windy terrace. This means that such a table looks great both indoors and outdoors. It’s the most low-maintenance option of all - wipe it down with a damp cloth, and it’s clean again. Among the available options, consider the Etera Concrete Coffee Table - a round piece with an organic surface texture; it looks like a mini-sculpture rather than a piece of furniture. For smaller spaces, we recommend the Celeste Concrete Coffee Table - a more compact option for those who want the same character but without the bulk.

  • Wooden coffee table. This is a classic that never goes out of style. The natural tones of wood bring the warmth we so desperately crave amid the hustle and bustle of city life. Natural wood tones can easily blend into virtually any style, from rustic to minimalist. It’s best to choose a smaller wooden coffee table so it doesn’t overwhelm the space. From our selection, consider the Ayla Coffee Table in a honey shade with three legs, or the lighter Amara Coffee Table. For those who prefer a more classic look, we also have a four-legged option - the Monique Coffee Table.

  • Rattan coffee table. A great choice for those who appreciate organic materials and handcrafted work. Natural rattan looks equally good in the dining room and the living room. This material adds exactly the texture that makes boho and rustic-style interiors look authentic and cozy. But keep in mind that rattan is lighter than concrete and wood, which means it’s much easier to move around. Available options: Ava Coffee Table - natural rattan with a slightly unusual shape. Estelle, with its open weave, looks lighter visually and almost weightless.

Choosing the Right Shape: Round, Rectangular, and Oval

Once you’ve decided on the material, move on to the desired shape:

  • A round coffee table is one of the best options for corner sofas and L-shaped layouts. It has no sharp corners to bump your knee against constantly, and it’s accessible from any side (which is especially important if people often gather around the table and need to reach for a glass or plate while sitting on the sofa). A round coffee table also works well in compact rooms, where a rectangular table would simply block the passage between the sofa and the rest of the furniture. The minimum diameter is 60 cm for a two-seater sofa, 80-100 cm for a three-seater or corner sofa.

  • A rectangular shape is suitable for long, straight sofas. It mirrors the sofa’s proportions and creates a clear “corridor” between the seating area and the table, while also providing more usable surface area in a linear space. This is convenient if books, magazines, or a laptop are constantly on the table.

  • The oval shape is the happy medium: the length of a rectangle, but without sharp corners. It works well in both compact and spacious rooms and is often a good compromise for families with small children. The sharp corners are gone, but the functionality of the rectangular shape remains.

Height: the standard is 40-45 cm. Lower (35 cm) is suitable for a lounge vibe, when you want to lean back on cushions and hold a cup almost at seat level. Higher (50 cm) is suitable for a more formal look with a dining table feel. The main rule: the top of the coffee table should be 5-10 cm lower than the sofa seat level, making it easy to reach without leaning too far forward.

Coffee Table Styling: What Goes on Top

The rule of three. One organic item (vase, dried twigs, plant), one functional item (tray, set of coasters, books), and one decorative accent (candle, small sculpture, ceramic bowl). This rule works for any coffee table, whether round, rectangular, or oval, and prevents two common mistakes: either the table is empty and looks “lifeless,” or it’s cluttered with knick-knacks and turns into a storage area. Additional rules to help achieve a “finished look”:

  • Scale matters too. Items should be proportional to the table’s size. A tiny vase on a 100-centimeter concrete table will get lost and look like it was accidentally left there, while a tall arrangement on a small table, on the other hand, will “overwhelm” the table and make it look visually unstable.

  • Varying heights. One tall item, one medium-sized, one short - this creates depth rather than a flat arrangement. It’s the same principle used in decorating shelves and fireplaces, just on a smaller scale.

  • A tray hack. A wooden or ceramic tray brings small items together into a single composition - and suddenly four different objects become a single, well-thought-out scene rather than a mess. A tray also serves a practical purpose: if you need to clear space on the table for food or a laptop, simply move the tray aside instead of gathering the vase, candles, and books separately.

Indoor vs. Outdoor Coffee Tables: What to Consider in Dubai

Outdoor coffee tables in Dubai must withstand UV rays, humidity, sand, and occasional rain while still looking beautiful - not becoming a problem after just one summer.

As we mentioned earlier, concrete can be used outdoors and is the safest option. Etera, Celeste, and Aisha can be placed on a completely open terrace without any additional treatment, and they will look just as good in July as they do in January.

Rattan is better suited for covered terraces and balconies (though it does hold up quite well in the sun). Wood is more complicated because it all depends on the type of wood: teak withstands full exposure to sun and rain with virtually no issues. In contrast, other types of wood require a canopy or at least partial protection from precipitation.

There is also a compromise option - dual use: a concrete coffee table stays in the living room in the summer, when the heat makes it hard to go out onto the terrace, and in October, with the arrival of milder weather, it moves to the terrace and becomes part of the evening lounge.

For small terraces, a small coffee table with a diameter of about 60 cm is often more practical than a large one. It leaves more room to move around and fits easily between outdoor chairs without turning the terrace into an obstacle course.

How to Match a Coffee Table to Your Sofa and Room

Contrasting materials work to your advantage. A concrete coffee table next to a linen sofa - the cool texture of the concrete balances the softness of the fabric. A rattan coffee table on a neutral floor adds warmth and texture where it would otherwise be lacking. A wooden coffee table next to a velour sofa - a combination that looks expensive without trying too hard. But when everything around it is made of the same material, the room looks flat and lacks depth, as if all the furniture were bought as a set from a catalog.

Size rule: the coffee table should be approximately 2/3 the length of the sofa. For a 240 cm sofa, a table about 160 cm long works well, or two small tables placed side by side, which offers more flexibility and allows you to change the layout without buying new furniture.

Distance: 40-50 cm between the edge of the sofa and the edge of the table. Any closer, and it will be uncomfortable to sit down and pick something up from the floor; any farther, and you won’t be able to reach a cup without getting up every time.

In open-plan apartments, the coffee table serves as a boundary - it signals to the eye that “the living room begins here,” even if there are no walls around it. This is especially important in modern Dubai apartments, where the living room, kitchen, and dining area are often combined into one large space, and each zone needs its own visual “anchor.”

Where to Buy Coffee Tables in Dubai

Most furniture stores in Dubai sell mass-produced MDF tables with laminated tops - lightweight, inexpensive, but rather bland. After a couple of years of active use, they start to look worn out: chips appear, the finish peels, and the table has to be replaced.

We take a different approach from the start. Every concrete coffee table, wooden coffee table, or rattan coffee table in our collection is a solid, handcrafted piece: it has real weight, natural variations between pieces, and a character that only becomes more pronounced over time, rather than fading away.

Price guide in our catalog: rattan coffee table - from 890 to 1300 AED, wooden coffee table - from 895 to 995 AED, concrete coffee table - from 990 to 1690 AED. This range makes it easy to find an option that fits your specific interior and budget without compromising on material quality.
