Sofia Wall Decor 60cm

Sofia is a flat woven disc, 60 cm across, worked by hand in natural leaf fibre.

She brings texture to a wall without adding colour, and that is a more useful trick than it sounds. Most apartments here arrive with a large run of white or beige wall and nothing to break it up. Wall decor that carries a pattern commits the room to something; she breaks the wall up without committing it to anything.

About the size.

60 cm diameter. On her own she suits a narrow wall or the space above a console. Above a three-seater sofa a single 60 cm disc will look undersized - there she works better as a group of two or three at different diameters.

About the material.

Handwoven natural leaf fibre over a frame. Tone shifts across the piece and between pieces. Natural fibre is never uniform, and that unevenness is what gives her depth under a side light.

How she ages in the sun.

Natural fibre lightens where the sun reaches it. On an outdoor wall or one that catches the afternoon, expect her to pale a little over the first season and then settle. It is a colour change rather than wear, and plenty of people prefer the softer tone it leaves. If you want her to stay exactly as she arrived, hang her out of direct light.

Indoors or outdoors.

Both. She works on an interior wall, on a terrace, or beside a door.

Care.

Dust with a soft brush or a vacuum on its lowest setting. Keep her dry, and never wipe natural fibre with a damp cloth.
