Handwoven Rattan Lounge Chair on Black Iron Legs
Description
San Carlos is built around one thing: a wide, dipped seat that you sink into rather than sit on. The rattan curves where your back needs it, and the black iron legs keep the whole piece visually light despite its width.
It reads as a design object when nobody’s in it, which is half the reason to buy a lounge chair in the first place.
About the size and comfort.
Seat height 39 cm, total height 77 cm, 63 cm wide and 61 cm deep.
That 39 cm seat is the number that matters. It sits lower than a dining chair, which is what makes it a lounge chair: you lean back into it instead of sitting upright. For the same reason it doesn’t belong at a dining table, where you’d be sitting six centimetres too low.
The seat is wide enough to sit sideways with your legs over one arm, which is how most people actually use a chair like this.
It takes a cushion well. A plump cushion in the dip changes it from a chair you admire to one you stay in for an hour.
About the material.
Handwoven from natural rattan on black iron legs. Each chair is woven by hand, so the pattern and tone vary slightly between pieces - that variation is the material, not a fault in it.
Where it works.
Beside a sofa as the second seat in a living room. In a bedroom corner with a floor lamp, where it becomes the place you actually read. In a wide hallway or on a landing, where a full armchair would block the way.
Indoors, or on a covered terrace. Natural rattan doesn’t survive direct year-round sun or rain, so an open balcony is the one place it shouldn’t go.
Care.
Dust with a dry, soft brush along the weave. Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. No harsh chemicals and no hot water - both distort natural fibre. Keep out of direct air-conditioning airflow, which dries the rattan over time.
