A Curved Padded Back on a Solid Wooden Frame
Description
The back is what you notice: a single rounded pad, curved to follow your shoulders, carried on a wooden rail that runs behind it rather than around it. Everything else is deliberately quiet - a rounded upholstered seat, four tapered legs, nothing else.
About the size and the seat.
Seat height 45 cm, which is standard dining height and pairs with a table of 73 to 78 cm. 50 cm wide and 50 deep, so a 160 cm table takes three along a side comfortably. No arms, which means she slides fully under the table - the detail that decides whether a dining chair works in a room where people walk past the table rather than around it.
About the back.
Most dining chairs make you choose between a back you can lean into and a back that looks light. The curve here does both: the pad is deep enough to take your weight properly through a long meal, and because it sits above the seat on two uprights rather than enclosing you, the room behind the chair stays visible. She reads as a lounge chair and measures as a dining one, which is why she works at a table you also sit at to work.
About the materials.
Solid wood frame in a warm mid-brown, tapered at the legs and turned down to a slim point at the floor. The seat and back are upholstered in a textured cream fabric - the weave is visible rather than flat, so the pale colour has something to catch the light. Black caps on the feet, which protect a tiled or marble floor and stop the legs marking when the chair is pushed back.
The padding is built in.
No separate cushion to buy, position or replace. What you sit on is part of the chair.
Indoor use.
Upholstered fabric and solid timber are an indoor combination. Humidity gets into both, and pale upholstery outdoors here lasts a season.
Care.
Vacuum the seat and the seam between seat and back with an upholstery attachment. Blot spills at once rather than rubbing. Wipe the frame with a soft dry or barely damp cloth, and treat with wood oil occasionally to keep the colour, particularly if the air conditioning runs constantly.
