Mono Weave Rattan Wall Decor, 60 cm

Sixty centimetres across, handwoven in rattan in concentric rings that alternate natural and near-black. The contrast is what separates her from a plain woven plate: she reads from the other side of a room, where most natural rattan pieces only read up close.

About the size.
At 60 cm she carries a wall on her own - above a sofa or a console she is enough, without needing a second piece to make sense. She also works as the centre of a group, and that is where the pattern earns its place: the concentric rings pull the eye inward, so everything hung around her arranges itself.

About the material and the pattern.
Hand-woven rattan, with the dark tone worked into the weave rather than painted over it. The rings run from a pale natural centre out through bands of black and cream, and the density of the weave changes between them, so she has depth as well as pattern. It is a graphic piece made from an organic material, which is an unusual combination and the reason she works on a wall that would make a plain natural piece disappear.

The dark and light contrast also does something practical: on a white or beige wall, which is most walls here, she gives the room a dark point to measure everything else against.

How she hangs.
Light for her size, and a single fixing takes her. On masonry use a plug and screw; on plasterboard an adhesive strip will hold, as long as the wall is clean and dry and does not take afternoon sun.

Indoors or outdoors.
Both. Natural rattan lightens in direct sun, so outdoors the contrast softens a little over the first season and then holds.

Care.
Dust with a soft brush or a vacuum on its lowest setting, going with the weave rather than across it. Keep her dry.
