Handmade Monet Round Side Table in White Concrete

Monet is a pedestal side table with a fluted, ribbed surface running around both the bowl-shaped top and the base. The form is simple; the texture is what makes it. In daylight the flutes catch shadow and give the piece depth that a smooth surface never has.

About the size and use.

Compact enough to sit beside a sofa, an armchair or a bed without crowding the space, and the pedestal base means it takes up less floor than a four-legged table of the same width. Use it for a lamp and a book, as a drinks table, or as a plant stand.

About the material.

Moulded by hand from a concrete and resin composite, finished in white. The composite is the reason the piece works at this size: it gives the look, weight and cool touch of solid concrete with better resistance to chipping at the edges of the flutes, which is where a pure concrete casting would fail first.

Every table is moulded and finished by hand, so small variations in the flute depth and surface tone are normal.

Where it works.

Beside a sofa or an armchair in a living room. As a bedside table where something sculptural works better than timber. On a covered terrace or veranda. The white finish lifts a dark corner and sits comfortably against warm woods, rattan and linen, or against black metal in a more modern room.

Indoor and covered outdoor use.

Indoors, or outdoors under cover. In direct year-round sun the white finish will change over time, so a shaded terrace is the right place for it rather than an open one.

Care.

Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately. Blot spills straight away - wine, oil and coffee mark a pale surface faster than a dark one. Use coasters. Avoid abrasive cleaners and bleach.
