Fredric Rug

Fredric is a hand-knotted wool rug, which is a different thing from a machine-made one in almost every way that matters. Each knot is tied individually, so the pile sits denser, wears more evenly, and holds its shape for years rather than seasons.

About the pattern and colour.

Grey, with a subtle diamond motif worked in two tones so the pattern reads as texture rather than contrast - geometric enough to feel contemporary, soft enough that it doesn't dominate a room.

Because the rug is knotted by hand, the pile doesn't all lie in one direction, and the surface catches the light differently depending on where you stand. That shift is what gives it depth, and it's the thing flat photographs never capture. It's a rug that looks better in person than on screen.

What to expect from a hand-knotted rug.

A hand-knotted pile sheds a little in the first few weeks and then settles - that's the pile releasing loose fibre, not the rug wearing out. Small irregularities in the pattern and slight variation in the pile are part of hand-knotting rather than faults in it. And because the pile has direction, the rug will look lighter from one end of the room than the other. Rotating it a couple of times a year keeps that even.

Care.

Vacuum lightly and regularly, without a beater brush. Blot spills straight away with a paper towel or clean cloth rather than rubbing. Trim loose ends with scissors rather than pulling them. Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight and rotate the rug periodically so any fading stays even.

Storage.

Store clean and completely dry, in a ventilated space. Roll rather than fold, with the pile facing outward.
