Evie Floor Lamp Black

Evie pairs a narrow black stand with a handwoven shade, so she reads light in a room instead of heavy. At 131 cm the shade sits just above shoulder height when you are seated, which is exactly where you want it for reading.

The weave does the real work. Light comes through it broken rather than flat, so instead of a hard pool on the floor you get a warm, softly patterned glow across the wall behind her.

About the size.

131 cm high. Standard floor-lamp height - tall enough to light a reading chair properly, low enough not to block a sightline across an open-plan room. She takes up almost no floor area, which makes her a good answer for a corner that feels dark but has no space for furniture.

About the material.

Powder-coated black frame with a handwoven natural-fibre shade. The weave is done by hand, so the pattern is never identical twice.

Natural fibre and damp do not mix. She belongs away from an open bathroom door or a terrace threshold, and the shade should never be wiped with anything wet.

Honest note on the bulb.

The bulb changes this lamp more than anything else. Use a warm 2700K bulb and the weave throws a warm shadow. Use cool white and the whole effect flattens out - you get a bright shade and nothing else. Bulb is not included.

Indoor vs outdoor.

Indoor only, or a fully covered terrace well back from the edge. Natural fibre will not survive direct sun or sea air.

Care.

Dust the shade with a soft dry brush or a vacuum on its lowest setting. Dry cloth on the metal. Never wet the shade.
