Blue and White Cotton Rug

A flatweave rug in undyed cotton, hand-loomed with a scattered indigo motif and a hand-knotted fringe at both ends. Light, soft and easy to move - a rug you can pick up and reposition on your own rather than one that commits a room permanently.

About the pattern and colour.

Natural cream ground with small indigo brushstroke marks placed irregularly across it. Because the marks are applied by hand, no two rugs carry exactly the same arrangement. The palette is neutral enough to sit under almost any furniture, and the blue reads as a soft accent rather than a statement.

About the material.

Handwoven from organic cotton. Cotton is lighter and thinner than wool, which is what makes this rug easy to lift, shake out and move between rooms. It has a flat, low profile with no pile, so chairs slide across it easily and it sits flush under a door.

The trade-off is that a flatweave gives less underfoot cushioning than a wool pile. If softness is the priority, a wool rug will serve better; if you want lightness and a crisp, textural look, cotton is the right call.

Where it works.

In a room with plenty of natural light, where the weave and the undyed cotton show at their best. In an entranceway or a kitchen, where a light rug is easier to lift and shake out. Layered over a larger jute or wool rug for contrast. Beside a bed as a soft landing in the morning.

An honest note on cleaning.

This rug is dry clean only, so it is not the right choice for a dining area, a covered terrace or a household where spills are frequent. Undyed cotton also shows marks more readily than a patterned wool pile. Placed somewhere calm, it will stay looking good for years; placed under a dining table, it will not.

Care.

Shake out regularly and vacuum on a low setting without a beater brush. Blot any spill immediately rather than rubbing it in. Professional dry cleaning only. Rotate periodically so any sun fading stays even, and trim loose fringe ends with scissors rather than pulling them.
