Angelo Rattan Dining Chair with White Legs

The first thing you notice about him is how little he weighs. Handwoven rattan over a frame, on white cast iron legs that run in one continuous loop from the back to the floor - so there are no bulky joints and nothing to catch a foot on underneath.

About the size and the seat.
Seat height 44 cm, which is standard dining height and pairs with a table of 73 to 78 cm. Width 54 cm with the arms included, so a 160 cm table takes three along a side comfortably and four only at a squeeze. The arms are low enough to slide under most tables when he is pushed in, which is the detail that decides whether a dining chair with arms works in a compact room.

About the material.
Hand-woven rattan across the back, the seat and the arms, over white cast iron. The weave is open rather than solid, so he reads lighter than a solid-backed chair and the room behind him stays visible. The legs are cast iron rather than tube - heavier than they look, which is what keeps a light chair steady.

Honest note on comfort.
Rattan is firm. He is comfortable for a meal and for the hour after it, and a cushion makes the difference for anything longer. One is available as an add-on if you want it from the start.

Indoor or covered outdoor.
Indoors, or on a covered terrace. He is not an open-terrace chair: natural rattan left in direct sun and year-round weather dries, loses tension and discolours. If he does live outdoors, cover him when he is not in use.

Care.
Clean with cold water and a mild detergent only - hot water shrinks rattan and makes it brittle. Brush the weave with a soft dry brush rather than wiping across it.
