Rattan and Natural Floor Vases: How to Style Woven Vases in Dubai Homes

What do most Dubai interiors that look unfinished have in common? No, it’s not a lack of furniture or a look that’s too simple. The sense of incompleteness comes from too many smooth, uniform surfaces, when everything is literally “polished” to create a flat look. But this is easy to fix simply by adding texture. Rattan or woven vases solve this very problem: they add a natural warmth that no other material can replicate.

It works as a sculptural piece in a corner. You can add some pampas grass as an accent to draw the eye, or leave it empty to create a purely decorative piece. This option is also ideal for a patio between armchairs, transforming a haphazard arrangement into a thoughtfully designed space.

In this article, we’ll explore how rattan differs from natural fiber, how to choose the right size for your room and the surface where you’ll place the vase, and how to create a group arrangement that looks organic. After reading this article, you’ll definitely want to purchase one or more of these vases.

Rattan vs. Natural Fiber: Two Materials, Two Characters

When people say “woven vase,” they’re usually referring to two fundamentally different materials. And the choice between them affects how the object will feel in a specific space, even if they look similar on the surface.

  • Rattan vase

Structured rattan, with a clearly defined weave and a warm honey hue. It holds its shape, creates clean lines even in organic silhouettes, and doesn’t lose its appearance over time - it just darkens slightly, which looks even better in most interiors. Mila Natural Rattan Vase is the most versatile rattan vase in our collection: handcrafted, with a completely natural finish, compact enough for a shelf or console table, and heavy enough to stand confidently on its own on the floor. Nora Natural Rattan Vase has a more elongated silhouette and is slightly larger; it works well both indoors and in the garden.

For those looking for something truly grand, there’s the Margot Natural Rattan Vase Large and the Aria Natural Rattan Vase Large. These are true large floor vases - tall enough to anchor an entryway or a corner of the living room without needing any additional decor nearby. A single large vase like this can set the tone for the entire space it occupies, and this is perhaps the best value for money in home decor.

  • Woven vases (from natural fibers)

Banana leaf and natural plant fibers offer a softer, more relaxed texture: lighter in tone, less structured, with a “handcrafted” feel. We also carry these options in our collection, and they’re in high demand. For example, the Savana Natural Woven Vase and Palma Natural Woven Vase, both medium-sized with a distinct boho vibe - look great on a dining table, console table, or shelf. The Kalani Natural Woven Floor Vase Large is a larger woven vase with a real floor-standing presence. This is exactly the kind of boho vase you need if you’re looking for a natural, soft look without the rigid structure of rattan.

Both weaving styles are similar. Choose rattan for more structured, warm spaces, and opt for natural fiber for soft, relaxed interiors. Plus, you can even combine them in the same space because they share a similar weave and color palette.

Floor Vases vs. Table Vases: Sizing and Placement

This is the question we’re asked most often: “What size is right for my room?” The answer depends on the available surface area or lack thereof.

  • Large floor vases (60 cm and up)

These are no longer just decor, they’re architectural elements. Large floor vases are placed next to a sofa, in an empty corner, on either side of the front door, or on a covered terrace. A single tall floor vase in the right spot does more for a neutral Dubai interior than three small accessories on a shelf combined.

Such a floor vase doesn’t need to be filled. The shape itself makes a statement. If you want to add stems, choose tall pampas grass or eucalyptus that extend at least 30 cm above the rim of the vase. If you’d like to use something smaller, we don’t recommend it because you’ll lose the proportions. This will make your vase look squat.

  • Medium-sized vases for surfaces (up to 50 cm)

Medium-sized vases are designed for console tables, dining tables, shelves, and nightstands. As flower vases, they work well with a single dried stem or a small branch. Or they can remain empty, simply serving as a tactile, natural accent on the surface. A single woven vase on a coffee table next to a stack of books makes the surface look intentionally arranged, rather than haphazardly filled.

Many refer to this style as a modern vase, and that’s true in the sense that the woven texture fits just as organically into contemporary minimalism as it does into a richer, layered interior. A decorative vase made of rattan or natural fiber is one of those rare items that works anywhere.

But don’t forget that you can also mix and match different sizes. For example, choose one large vase and place it on the floor next to a console table. And on the console table itself, add a single vase made of a similar material but on a smaller scale. This looks like a carefully planned design element.

Styling Room by Room

The same vase feels completely different in different rooms. Here’s how we arrange them ourselves and how we advise our clients to do so.

  • Living Room. A large floor vase next to the sofa or in an empty corner - Aria was created specifically for this purpose. On the coffee table - one medium-sized rattan vase with a single dried stem, no more. On the console table behind the sofa, one or two woven vases of different heights. The principle is simple: each surface is one focal point, and it must be striking.

  • Bedroom. A medium-sized vase on the nightstand, such as the Mila, with a single dried stem. The bedroom is the place where minimalism works better than any other approach, and a single natural accent speaks louder than three.

  • Entryway. The first impression of the home. A single large vase (Margot Large or Kalani) is often all you need. The entryway is great because a decorative vase stands out unchallenged: there’s nothing else to catch the eye, so it reveals itself fully.

  • Dining area. Here, choose a vase up to 30 cm and place it on the table to create a cozy corner without blocking conversation. Fill it with dried wheat or cotton stalks for a calm, natural look on the table.

  • Terrace. Rattan vases work well on covered terraces. The Nora, placed between outdoor chairs or next to a sofa, is a neat modern vase that doesn’t compete with the outdoor furniture but gently complements it.

Grouping and Pairing: How to Create a Curated Look

If you want a group of vases to look as though it was curated gradually and with good taste, there are a few principles we use all the time that always work:

  • Odd numbers. Groups of three look better than groups of two or four. One tall rattan vase, one medium-sized, and one small. This visual hierarchy creates depth that the eye perceives as organic, rather than rigidly arranged.

  • A unified material palette. Group rattan with rattan or wicker with wicker. You can mix both materials if the tones are similar. Mila + Savana + Palma at three different heights on a single shelf - one natural color palette, three different textures, and it looks as if it’s been collected over the years.

  • What to pair them with. Woven vases naturally complement linen textiles, jute rugs, wooden furniture, and ceramic accents. The contrast between the woven texture and a smooth surface is precisely the visual interest that makes it worth carefully considering how you arrange objects: place a boho vase next to a white ceramic bowl, and both pieces will benefit from this pairing.

  • Empty vs. filled. A tall floor vase looks best when empty or filled with tall, simple stems. Medium-sized vases can be filled with a single dried stem or a small pampas grass arrangement. Never overfill a woven flower vase with too much content: the texture of the weave itself is the main point of interest, and a bouquet that’s too dense simply hides it.

  • Seasonal Rotation. Pampas grass and cotton in the summer, eucalyptus and dried wheat in the winter. Change the contents, but keep the vases. This is the simplest and most affordable way to refresh the feel of a room without buying new furniture.

Where to Buy Rattan and Woven Vases in Dubai

The difference between a mass-market woven vase and a genuine handmade piece is obvious within the first few seconds: just pick one up. Synthetic vases are lightweight, with weaving that’s perfectly uniform down to mechanical precision and that’s exactly what gives them away. A genuine, handmade rattan vase is noticeably heavier; the weave varies slightly from section to section, and this “imperfection” is what brings it to life.

What to look for when choosing: a dense, even weave; a stable base that doesn’t wobble; and natural tonal variations in the material - these are signs of authentic craftsmanship. Every woven vase and large floor vase in our collection is inspected before it appears on the website: we examine each piece ourselves, hold it in our hands, and decide whether it’s worthy of reaching our customers. This takes time, but it ensures you receive exactly what you see in the photos.

Price guide: medium flower vases and tabletop models range from 150 to 400 AED, while tall floor vases and large vases range from 400 to 900 AED. This is a price range where you can actually find a piece with character, rather than just a “placeholder” for an empty corner.

The complete collection - decorative vases in all sizes, as well as modern vases made of rattan and natural fibers - can be found in our rattan vase collection. If you’re not sure which size will suit your space, write to us and we’ll help you choose without any guesswork.
